“Playfulness” is a visual exploration and an invitation to reconnect with the child within us. This multidisciplinary long-term project is a collaboration with my two daughters to build a bridge between childhood and adulthood.
I started to photograph Giovanna and Bianca while they were playing, and I found myself playing again. I understood how much being playful can be a powerful tool, even for us, as adults, to relate with the world and with ourselves. As we grow, we tend to drift away from the child we were, we disconnect from our true self and what makes us deeply fulfilled. But this child exists just as much as the adult we are today. Why not listen to him?
During these 8 years, our project has grown beyond the boundaries of photography, integrating other mediums that better suit my children's gaze, such as videos and voice recordings, drawings and, more recently, writings, which allows them to question the world and express their feelings. It can be seen as a dialogue between mother and daughters, between inner and outer worlds.
With this series, I'm seeking to look at the world through children’s eyes but also to represent the way I feel when I am playing with them.
Being closer to my daughters helped me to connect with my inner child and my inner self. Bringing back to life the little girl I was, allowed me to better know the woman I am today.
